Who We Are

This blog is about . . . well . . . our lives with dementia. My husband of four and a half years has dementia, and I have been his caregiver since the diagnosis came nine months after the wedding. While this is not what can typically happen nine months after a wedding (ahem), it has certainly become our baby -- a small entity we're destined to care for and devote all our attention to. We're in for the ride of our lives.

For this blog, we decided to remain anonymous to keep my husband's privacy. It is his wish. So we have decided to use the names Romeo and Juliet Archer. Call it symbolic expression. For now, all you need to know is that everything I, Juliet, write in this blog is the absolute 100% truth and that Romeo has given his permission for me to write anything I want and need to tell our story.

Let me say in this first blog entry that Romeo, after living at home with me all these years, was transferred yesterday from the hospital to a long-term care facility (nursing home) for rehab. They say he’ll be able to come home afterward. Romeo and I aren't so certain.

As you can probably see, there is much more to tell. Please bear with me as I ramp up the site and as our story unfolds.
